Local Weekend Fun – Plano Balloon Festival

Don’t forget to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend and the Plano Hot Air Balloon Festival is always a fun family activity.  The balloon festival is open beginning today through Sunday at 7 pm in Plano at the Oak Point Park (Spring Creek and Jupiter). On-site parking is $10 per car, general admission tickets are $5, $4 for Senior Citizens and children 36 inches and under are free.  There is a variety of food and vendors available in addition to the balloons to see.  So load up the car, your picnic blanket and go enjoy!

Allen Summer Sounds Play The Beatles Tonight

What could be better after a long Monday than spending the evening with family over a picnic dinner on the lush, fresh grass of the Joe Farmer Recreation Center Amphitheatre, enjoying live music filtering through the evening air?

The 15th Annual Summer Sounds Concert Series continues every Monday with a different concert through June 25. All Summer Sounds concerts happen at the Joe Farmer Recreation Center Amphitheatre, 1201 E. Bethany. The music will range from contemporary pop hits to zydeco to a Beatles tribute act and more. All Summer Sounds concerts are free and begin at 7 p.m. each Monday night. Light concessions and snow cones are available for purchase. Ground blanket seating is preferred so that concert goers of all ages can enjoy the best line of sight.

Tonight’s Band – Me and My Monkey
Since it’s inception in 1997, Me and My Monkey has traveled extensively perfecting its’ world class ‘Tribute to The Beatles’ along the way. With numerous television appearances, and headlining many festivals as well as opening for a handful of classic rock favorites in the United States, Me & My Monkey was more ready than ever to invade the shores of the U.K., even playing the world famous ‘Cavern Club’ (twice!) In an interview with a brit-popmagazine….“We feel there is only one way to do this…the right way. We’ll stop at nothing to give people the feeling that they are actually seeing and hearing the Beatles live.”

Tonight’s band, High Definition, is the premier cover band for all your partying needs. Not only do they play the best of today’s party favorites, they cover a variety of popular music from the last five decades.  Attendees will enjoy singing along to Aretha, playing air guitar with AC/DC, and getting down to Usher, Beyonce, and the Black Eyed Peas.

Tonight’s Band – Allen Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphony Chorus
The Allen Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphony Chorus continues its wonderful Memorial Day concert and tribute event on tonight. Not only will you delight in traditional Patriotic Pops music, but there will be activities designed to honor our veterans and servicemen and women. The event will conclude with a patriotic fireworks show!

Bike The Bricks, Downtown McKinney Tonight

Looking for a unique way to spend this afternoon/evening?  The City of McKinney, Texas in partnership with McKinney Velo Velo invites you to the third annual Bike the Bricks Criterium… in Historic Downtown McKinney on Friday evening, May 25, 2012. Spectators will be inches from the action as bike racers rocket through the downtown McKinney square at speeds in excess of 40 MPH, powered only by their legs, and protected from the pavement only by their skill. Some will be trying to grab a share of the $20,000 plus prize money, for others it’s a test of survival.

Event spectators of all ages are invited to this year’s Friday night free event in Downtown McKinney to enjoy cycling, friendly camaraderie and an opportunity to purchase food and drink This year we are estimating 500 cyclists will participate in the event, and thousands of spectators will enjoy event amenities. Warm up begins at 4:00 p.m., racing kicks off at 4:30p.m.

There are several great locations to watch the nail-biting action packed races throughout the course.  Not only in the Beer Garden but bleachers will be available in the Parking Lot at Virginia Street near the Start/Finish line.

Health & Wellness Expo

Local Health & Wellness Vendors will be on hand to during the event to highlight and communicate how to get in shape, eat right and feel better.  This area will also serve as a Racers Registration Area where they will be able to sign up and pick up their packets for the Race.

The Goddard School of McKinney will be back again this year to offer array physical activities for kids as well as Alice the Face Painter will be on hand until dark to paint kids faces and have a little fun.

A portion of the proceeds raised from Bike the Bricks will be donated to McKinney Education FoundationMcKinney Main Street is a 501 (c) nonprofit organization with a mission to ensure that downtown McKinney continues to be the vibrant, inviting, safe and growing area it is known for today. Bike the Bricks in Downtown McKinney on May 25 is an opportunity for racers and fans to make memories while helping McKinney Main Street andMcKinney Velo support a worthy cause in our community. So grab your lawn chairs, bring the family and experience a memory in the making under the stars as we celebrate what being part of McKinney Texas is all about.
