The start of a new school year speeds up the pace of life! Between the car pool line, football games, study sessions and the school projects, soon enough there will be little time to focus on home projects. Get organized and ahead of the chaos for a successful and stress-free school year with these three simple tips.
Tip 1: Organize and De-Clutter! Make room for new supplies first by getting rid of unnecessary items from the prior year. Once you can start from a clean slate there are many accessories that can be easily added. Try adding a dry erase board to the wall to keep paper from piling up, file folders to keep school projects organized by subject and stylish storage cubes to keep supplies neatly stored. Also, set the precedent from the moment the house is entered by adding hanging hooks for coats and backpacks and shoe bins in the foyer, laundry room or mud room space.
Tip 2: Create a DIY study space. The perfect solution for the child who can’t seem buckle down for study time is a quiet and cozy retreat. To keep distractions far away, find a place in the home that is distant from the television, video games or internet. One great option is to go with a lofted bed, which most kids enjoy and is an efficient use of space, to create a study nook underneath. If a desk seems too formal, opt for comfortable bean bag chairs, a book case and mini side table.
Tip 3: It’s time for a kitchen overhaul. With busy schedules underway it’s important to make the most of family time around the dinner table. Spruce up your kitchen to be functional, yet inviting. A chalkboard for weekly menus keeps the family organized and looks stylish and for the tech-savy family a blue-tooth speaker to add music background for a relaxing end to a busy day.
